A retired climber in Asheville told me my hinge was too narrow, and it stuck with me
He watched me drop a 60 foot red oak back in 2019 and said "you're cutting a notch, not a hinge" when my back cut was way too shallow. Now I go at least 80 percent of the diameter and my felling has been way more predictable. Anybody else get one line from an old timer that just rewired how you cut?
