Told a homeowner his oak was fine, then the wind proved me wrong in front of his whole family
Three years back I did a consult on a big pin oak in Roanoke, and I told the guy it was solid, just needed one dead limb off. Fast forward to last month, a storm rolled through at about 2 in the morning, and that same oak dropped a 12 inch limb right onto his new shed. He called me the next day, calm as could be, and just asked if I remembered telling him the tree was fine. I did remember, and I have never wanted to crawl under a chipper more in my life. Turns out the crotch had rot I could not see from the ground, and my old probe missed it by about four inches. Now I climb and sound every major leader before I say a word about tree health. How many of you have talked a client out of a removal and had it come back to bite you?
