Serious question, did anyone else stop trusting museum labels after the 'bone' I saw in Denver turned out to be plaster?
I used to walk into a museum and just read the little card next to a display and take it as fact, no questions asked. That changed 3 months ago at a small natural history spot in Denver, where a curator finally admitted the '150,000 year old bone' I was staring at was a resin copy, and the real one sits in a vault. Now I photograph every label and cross check the catalog numbers online before I believe a single word. It kills me that so many displays never say 'cast' anywhere on them. How many of you have caught a museum passing off a copy as the real thing?
