A $12 bottle of dye fixed a rear main seal leak I was about to quote $900 to repair
Had a 2006 Silverado in the shop two weeks ago with a steady drip coming from the bellhousing area. I was ready to pull the transmission and quote the guy the full job, but my old boss told me to try AT-205 reseal first before tearing anything apart. I poured it in, let the truck idle for about 20 minutes, and told the owner to drive it for a week and check back. He came back 9 days later and the cardboard under his truck was bone dry, not a single drop. I know some guys think seal swellers are a band-aid, but for a truck with 187k miles that just needs to get to work every day, it beat a $900 repair. Has anyone else had luck with these on high mileage rear mains, or did it come back to bite you later?
