Just realized my $2,400 transmission repair could have been a $180 warranty claim if I had read the fine print
So about 5 months ago my 2018 Civic started slipping between second and third gear and I freaked out because the dealer in Columbus quoted me $2,400 for a new transmission. I paid it because I figured my extended warranty was one of those scams that never covers anything anyway. Then last Tuesday I was cleaning out my glove box and found the warranty paperwork from when I bought the car back in 2021, and it turns out the powertrain coverage was still active for another 8,000 miles. I called the warranty company and the lady on the phone (her name was Brenda, super nice) said the transmission was absolutely covered and I could have filed a claim before the repair. But since I already paid out of pocket and never got pre-authorization, they could not reimburse me. I sat in my driveway for like 20 minutes just staring at the paperwork feeling like a total idiot. The worst part is I remember the finance guy at the dealership telling me about the coverage but I was so tired from car shopping that whole day that I just nodded and signed. Now I tell everyone I know to actually read that stuff before they need it. Has anyone here ever gotten a warranty company to pay them back after a repair was already done, or is that pretty much always a dead end?
