Took me 3 days to chase a flaky GPS flag on a King Air, turned out to be the tray
We had a King Air 200 in the shop near Wichita with an intermittent GPS loss message. I swore it was the antenna, so I pulled the belly panel three different times and even reseated the coax, which ate most of a day. Day three I noticed the LRU tray latch felt a little loose compared to the other side. Tightened it down, ran the plane for an hour, and the flag never came back. Has anyone else had a tray or connector cause a gremlin like this instead of the box itself?
Been there way too many times. I once spent almost two full days swapping a transponder box because of a squawk that only showed up when the plane sat in the sun, and it turned out the connector pin in the rack had a hairline crack. The worst part is you feel like a hero when you finally find it, then you remember you had the whole tail apart for nothing. A loose tray will get you every time because it looks fine until you actually wiggle it. Glad it was a cheap fix at least.
