The Gila Wilderness boundary sign in New Mexico got me thinking about route markers
I hiked the Middle Fork loop outside Silver City last month and the only trail marker at the wilderness boundary was a faded wooden sign with no mileage or water info. How do you all handle route finding on poorly marked stretches like that, do you just lean on the map and compass or plan around known landmarks?
