Warning: got turned around near Cold Mountain because I trusted one trail sign too much
Was doing the Shining Rock loop in Pisgah and followed a faded sign that pointed left, which sent me down some old logging road for about 2 miles before I hit a dead end. Pulled out my paper map, realized I'd blown past the real turnoff, and had to backtrack in the dark with my headlamp fading. Anyone else had a solo trip saved only by carrying an actual map?
