My neighbor's lawnmower taught me about soundproofing

I was trying to record a podcast in my backyard studio last week when my neighbor fired up his lawnmower. The noise blasted through the walls and ruined my audio. I knew I had to fix this problem. I looked online for cheap ways to block noise. I ended up putting thick curtains on the windows and foam pads on the walls. It helped a lot, but I still hear low rumbles sometimes. Now I schedule my recordings for early mornings when it's quiet. Has anyone else dealt with outside noise in their studio? What did you try?

Dealt with my neighbor's leaf blower every single Saturday. Drove me nuts while I was trying to edit videos. Went to the hardware store and bought a ton of that sticky weather stripping for doors and windows. Also nailed some old moving blankets to the shared wall in my garage setup. It looks ridiculous but cuts down that high-pitched whine so much. Now I just get the low thump of his terrible music.

Your quick soundproofing fix is a smart move, @betty_patel. Layering different materials like rubber mats over the blankets might help with that low thump too. It's all about finding what works without spending a fortune.
