Question about the gravel base under my shed studio, did I skip the weed barrier for nothing? | Backyard Studios

I built a 10x12 shed studio behind my house in Boise last spring and put down 3 inches of gravel straight on the dirt, no fabric. Figured it was overkill. Two weeks ago I pulled up the floor panels to run new conduit and found weeds poking through the seams and the gravel sinking into the mud after rain. A neighbor who does landscaping said the fabric costs like $30 for a roll and would have saved me this mess. Now I am digging it back out. Did anyone else skip that step and regret it, or is there a cheaper fix I am missing?
