Why does nobody talk about how a canceled Uber screen made me give up on 'slick' app design?
I used to think minimalist apps were the peak of good design, clean lines, hidden menus, the whole deal. Then last month I tried to cancel a ride on a Friday night and the screen kept spinning for 45 seconds before showing a small grey 'x' in the top corner with no label. I tapped it three times and nothing happened, then the app charged me a $12 wait fee anyway. That one moment made me realize I had been wrong about hidden controls, they only work if you already know they are there, and a new user is just stuck guessing. I went back through my phone and counted 7 other apps with buttons that have no text, just tiny icons in the corners. It makes me wonder how many people just give up and uninstall instead of emailing support like I did. Has anyone else noticed a favorite app getting simpler and somehow harder to use at the same time? What was the specific screen that broke it for you?
