Can we talk about the elevator button that resets the floor you picked?

I pressed 12, then 8, and the panel lit up with 12, 8, and then a random 4 because someone leaned on the door sensor in a building downtown last Tuesday. The display cleared my selection and sent me to the lobby again, which added 6 minutes to my dentist appointment. Has anyone else dealt with an interface that silently cancels your choice instead of telling you it's wrong?
