That Saturday shift from hell almost made me quit baking for good

Last December I had a wedding cake order and a 200-person catering event due the same day. The walk-in cooler died at 6 AM and I lost 40 pounds of buttercream that took me two days to make. Has anyone else had a single day that made you question if this career is worth it?

Did you ever step back and think about how many years of normal days come before a disaster like that? One bad Saturday doesn't erase the hundreds of perfect cakes and happy customers you've made. It's brutal when it happens, but those days teach you more about your own grit than the easy ones ever will.

But do those hundreds of perfect cakes really matter if one bad Saturday can wipe out your reputation overnight? In my experience, customers remember the one messed up order way longer than they remember the flawless ones, especially if it was a big event like a wedding or a birthday party. You can make a thousand good cakes and still lose half your business from one viral bad review or angry post on social media. I think those "learning experiences" are overrated too, sometimes a disaster just means you messed up and you don't get a second chance with those people. Take it with a grain of salt, but I've seen places close down over a single bad weekend, so I'm not sure the good days always stack up the way you're saying.
