My birthday cake for my niece completely collapsed in the middle

Tbh, I was using a new recipe from a blog and it said to bake for 35 minutes, but my oven must run hot because it was totally done at 25. Has anyone else had a layer cake just sink in the center like a sad pudding?

Yeah, turning it into a pudding layer is the move. I had a chocolate one do that and just filled the dip with whipped cream and berries. It looked messy but everyone loved the extra creamy part.

Honestly, a sunken cake is basically the universe's way of telling you to load it up with extra frosting. It's not a baking fail, it's a built-in pudding layer. My last one looked like a crater and the kids just smashed more sprinkles into the dip. Tasted fine, zero complaints from the sugar-happy crowd.
