Warning: spent $85 on a thermo fork that quit after one pork butt
I picked up one of those fancy digital thermo forks at a BBQ supply shop in Tulsa back in May because the guy behind the counter swore it was the same probe the comp teams use. First cook went fine, a 9 pound shoulder, but on the second one the readout started jumping all over the place, 165 then 210 then 88 in like two seconds flat. I called the company and they told me to ship it back on my own dime, so now I'm out $85 plus shipping and still guessing temps with my old $12 dial. Has anyone found a cheap probe that actually survives a long cook, or am I just supposed to buy two and hope?
