Appreciation post: the old bike shop in Asheville had a wall of vintage tools
I was in Asheville last week and stopped by this tiny repair shop called The Spoke Fix. They had this whole wall of old tools, like a Park Tool stand from the 80s and these weird looking spoke wrenches I'd never seen. The owner said he keeps them around to show how things used to be done, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyone else run into a shop with a collection like that?

Ever see a shop that feels like a museum? That's the best kind of place to hang out.

Wait they had a Park stand from the 80s just sitting there? That's wild lol, those things are absolute tanks. I can't believe a shop would just have one on display instead of using it, they last forever. That's actually so cool he keeps that stuff around to show people. Makes me want to go dig through my grandpa's garage for old bike tools.

I read somewhere that the old Park Tool stands from the 80s had a different kind of clamp that could grip frame tubes without scratching them, which is why they still work perfectly today. The owner probably keeps that one out because it tells a story about how mechanics used to be careful with the bike's paint, no plastic jaws needed. Have you ever tried using an old school tool like that and found it worked better than the modern version?
