Had a customer tell me my torque wrench was 'overkill' yesterday
He insisted hand-tightening his carbon seatpost was fine, and I just stood there realizing maybe I've been the pedantic one this whole time. Has anyone else had a customer make you question your own standards?

Nah, I'm with you on this one. Carbon seatposts can be tricky, I've seen guys crack them just by cranking down too hard with a multi-tool on a ride. Torque wrench might seem like overkill but it's cheap insurance compared to a new post or frame. I'd rather be the pedantic guy than the one handing out a warranty claim because of a loose bolt.

Tbh I swapped to a torque key that lives in my saddle bag after I overtightened a seatpost bolt on my gravel bike. That little twist of the wrist cost me a carbon rail saddle, learned that lesson the hard way. Now I just have a basic Topeak torque stick that does 4 to 6 Nm, it's cheap and fits right next to my spare tube. Ngl it's made me way more confident clamping down anything on the bike, especially carbon parts.
