Showerthought: I quit chasing every little creak with my ear and started using a mechanic's stethoscope
Used to spend 20 minutes shaking frames and pressing on stuff trying to find where a creak came from, usually guessed wrong and replaced the wrong bearing. Bought a $15 stethoscope off Amazon back in March and now I just touch the probe to the seat tube, chainstays, and head tube and it points me right at the noise in about 2 minutes. Last week a guy's bottom bracket was squealing and I had it nailed before he finished his coffee. Anyone got a better trick for tracking down creaks on carbon frames where the sound just travels everywhere?
