Went with coil fork service over a new fork on my 2018 Trek Marlin and I'm 50/50 on it
My Marlin's RockShox Judy was feeling sticky on small bumps at about 900 miles, so I had a real choice to make. I could drop $45 on seals, oil, and a damper service kit, or put that money toward a used Recon for $200. I went with the service because my local shop in Boise quoted me $70 in labor and I figured I'd learn something doing it myself. Took me two tries to get the damper rod back in without cross threading it, and I scratched the stanchion a little with my pick, which stung. The fork does feel better, but it's still a Judy, and now I keep wondering if I just should have saved for the Recon. Anyone here done the cheap rebuild route and regretted not just upgrading?
