Old timer told me to quench in warm oil, I thought he was crazy
Guy named Frank who's been forging since the 70s kept telling me to heat my quench oil to about 130 degrees before dropping anything in. I figured cold oil would work just as good, so I ignored him for like 6 months. Then I made a batch of 5 knife blades and 3 of them came out with micro cracks near the edge. Switched to warming the oil in a beat up turkey fryer setup and haven't had a single crack since. Anyone else ever blow past advice because it sounded too simple to matter?
