DAE struggle with choosing between buying a new board game or a classic one?
Last month at my local game store in Denver, I had $60 to spend and was torn between picking up the new hotness everyone's talking about or finally getting a copy of Catan. I went with the new game, and after 4 plays, my group still prefers Catan's simple trading. Now I'm out $60 and my friends keep asking to play the old one. Has anyone else regretted chasing the new shiny thing over a proven classic?
Man, it's just a board game. You spent 60 bucks, you didn't lose your house. If your friends like Catan better, play Catan and keep the new one on the shelf for when you want something different. That's not a regret, that's just how buying games works sometimes. Not every new game is gonna hit with your group, and that's fine. Worst case you sell it or trade it and get most of your money back. This is a pretty small thing to be worked up about.
