That time a 3-inch weld on a 60-foot boiler in Toledo changed my whole approach

I was convinced our crew could finish the full pressure test on the new unit at the Toledo plant in a single shift, but a tiny pinhole leak on a seam weld proved me wrong. My foreman, Carl, made us stop and re-weld a full 3-inch section, which took an extra four hours. It felt like a waste then, but the inspector the next day said it was the cleanest pass he'd seen all month. Anyone else have a 'waste of time' that actually saved a bigger headache later?

Man, that reminds me of the time I spent a whole afternoon chasing a single bad ground in a control panel. The machine ran, but it had this tiny flicker on one indicator light. Everyone said to just note it and move on. Found a crimp that was barely hanging on. Fixed it, and two weeks later when we had a real power surge, that whole circuit was the only one that didn't fry. Felt silly at the time, but it saved a ton of downtime.

My old boss drilled that into me.

Yeah, I used to think that stuff was overkill. But seeing a small fix stop a big problem later on? Totally changed how I work.
