Orange and purple on a bus shelter in Memphis changed my mind

I was waiting for the 42 bus last Tuesday and this new shelter went up. Bright orange frame with deep purple panels, like someone dropped a creamsicle in grape soda. I stared at it for a solid 10 minutes because it should have been a mess, but the way the setting sun hit it made both colors pop without fighting. There was an older guy next to me who saw me looking and said, "City finally got one right." He told me they picked those colors because the old gray shelters kept getting tagged and nobody noticed. Now people actually stop to look at it, and the bus stop has become a little meeting spot. It got me thinking about how sometimes the boldest choices are the ones that stick. Has anyone else seen a public design combo that worked against all logic?
