Vent: an art director told me lime green and hot pink is a rookie move, and I still think she was wrong
Two years ago in a cramped meeting room in Chicago, an art director glanced at my mood board and said lime green next to hot pink always reads cheap, like a discount flyer. She wanted me to swap the green for sage and the pink for a dusty rose, and I did it because she signed the checks, but the whole thing felt flat and safe. The loud version was the one that made people stop at the trade show booth, and I have the 40 percent jump in scans to prove it. So no, I do not think wild clashes are a rookie move, I think playing it safe is. What is the loudest combo you have been told to tone down, and did you cave or hold your ground?
