Parked my hold list at position 12 for two years and finally moved it, all because of one meeting
For about two years I was the person in our club who always had 12 books on hold at the library at once, and I thought that was just how you did it. Then at our March meeting in the back room of the Riverside branch, Dana mentioned she only ever keeps two holds going, and I almost laughed at her. She said the trick is that when you have 12 holds, you stop caring which one lands, so you read whatever shows up and never actually finish the stack you meant to read. I went home that night and cut my list to the two books we had picked for April and May, and I read both of them in three weeks, which had not happened for me since 2021. Turns out I was not reading more, I was just shuffling holds around and feeling busy. The other thing is I actually remembered what happened in both books at the next meeting, since I was not mixing up six plots at once. Now I want to know if anyone else here runs a short hold list, or am I the only one who had to learn this the hard way?
