PSA: dropped $85 on a "vintage" brass finishing tool set online, and 6 of the 8 tools are basically scrap
Bought a lot of brass finishing tools off an auction site about a month ago for $85 shipped. The pics looked decent but when they showed up the spine polisher had a crack down the handle and two of the lettering tools were so worn you couldn't get a clean impression on a test board. Took them to a buddy who has been binding for 20 years and he pointed out the edge on most of them had been ground down past the point of saving. So now I have 6 tools that are paperweights and I'm out most of what I paid. Has anyone had luck getting a refund through an auction site when the listing says "as pictured"? And what do you all look for in photos before buying used tools?
