Tried PVA glue on spine linings instead of methyl cellulose and the difference was night and day
I bound a 300 page text block last month using methyl cellulose on the spine linings and it dried wavy in two spots. This week I did a similar block with PVA and it came out flat and tight. The PVA grabbed faster too, maybe 10 minutes to set compared to the hour I waited with the MC. MC gives you more open time but for spine work where you want a solid bond fast, PVA wins in my shop. I still use MC for paste papers and covering because it releases moisture better. Has anyone mixed the two for a middle ground, like a 70/30 PVA to MC blend?
