Why does nobody talk about how grain direction on the spine board changes everything for a 400 page text block?
I read in a 1962 library binding manual that spine boards should always run grain parallel to the spine, and I measured my last 12 books and every single one that warped had grain running the other way. Half the binders I know say it does not matter for small runs, but I ruined a $60 sheet of Davey board testing this out. So is grain direction on spine boards actually mandatory or just old timer superstition?
