Found a 90 year old ginkgo in Cincinnati that's growing out of a crack in a parking lot
I was walking to a job site off Vine Street in Cincinnati last month and saw this huge ginkgo tree basically growing straight out of a crack in an asphalt parking lot, no dirt around it at all. What got me was the leaves, they had that weird split shape on some branches and the normal fan shape on others, which I guess is a thing these trees do but I'd never noticed it up close before. Does anybody know how long a ginkgo can actually survive like that with its roots jammed under concrete, because this one had to be at least 40 feet tall?
A buddy of mine had one doing the same thing in his apartment lot, roots all shoved under the concrete, and it was still kicking after like 30 years. Those things are basically living fossils, so a little asphalt isn't gonna stop one. 40 feet tall means it's been there a long time, probably outlasted whoever poured that lot.
