Just realized my $40 laser level from Harbor Freight reads the same as the one my old boss paid $400 for
Bought a cheap laser level two months back for a fireplace surround job in a house out in Nashua. Figured for 40 bucks if it got me through one job I was ahead. Set it up beside the guy's Bosch on the same corner and checked both lines against a story pole. Dead on. Every mark, both units.
So either the Bosch is overpriced or the cheap one is gonna drift on me in a season. I honestly don't know which and it bugs me. Half the old timers on my crew swore you can't trust anything under a hundred bucks.
I'm not saying go chuck your nice gear. But what I want to know is where does the cheap stuff actually fall apart? Has anyone run one of these for a full year of real work and had it hold up? Or am I just waiting for it to bite me on a $3k fireplace job?
