My $20 grocery challenge lasted exactly 3 days and failed hard

Last Tuesday I decided to see if I could feed myself for a full week on just $20. I live in Austin, Texas and thought rice, beans, and eggs would carry me through. By day 3 I was so sick of plain rice and scrambled eggs I almost ordered takeout. I ended up spending $12 on a bag of frozen veggies and some canned tomatoes to mix it up. Has anyone here actually pulled off a full week on a super tight budget like $20 or $25 without wanting to quit?

Oh man, I have to call out something real quick. You said rice and beans and eggs cost $20 for a week in Austin, but that's really hard unless you already had some stuff like oil and spices at home. I tried a similar challenge last year and learned that plain rice and plain eggs are a recipe for quitting, not saving money. Frozen veggies and canned tomatoes are actually a smart way to stretch things out, not a failure. Did you check out any discount grocery stores or buy in bulk to make it last longer?

Yeah I used to roll my eyes at people who said spices matter but now I get it.
