Booked a $22 bus from Austin to New Orleans instead of the $180 flight and it worked out fine | Budget Travel Hacks

I had a wedding to get to in New Orleans and flights were nuts, like $180 one way from Austin. Said forget it and grabbed a Megabus ticket for $22, left at 6am on a Thursday and rolled in around 2pm. It was honestly fine, I slept most of the way and the outlet by my seat worked. Only catch was the station drop off in NOLA is a mile from the French Quarter, so I walked it with my bag. Has anyone else done the cheap bus thing over a short flight or is that too much time for you?
