The $60 meal kit vs. the $12 pantry dinner, my wallet has a clear winner

Last month I stared at my fridge before payday and had to pick between ordering one of those meal kit boxes my coworker keeps pushing, which would have been about $60 for three dinners, or making do with the random stuff I already had. I went with the pantry route: a bag of rice, some canned beans, frozen veggies, and a jar of curry paste I forgot I bought in April. It took me 25 minutes and made enough for four meals, so I saved roughly $48 and also didn't have to wait for a delivery. Sure, the meal kit would have had fancier sauces, but this actually tasted fine and I felt less guilty about the food waste. I'm curious, how many of you have ditched the subscription boxes for a strict 'shop your own kitchen' week, and did you actually stick with it or fold by day two?
