The paper aisle at the Portland Blick nearly got me, watch the GSM on those loose sheets
I was in the Portland Blick on SW Morrison two days ago restocking my fineliners and figured I'd grab some loose dot grid sheets for a brain dump section since my Leuchtturm is down to the last 15 pages. The display looked great, nice heavy feel, and I almost bought a 50 pack for $14 without checking the label. Something made me flip the package over and sure enough it was 160 GSM, way too thick for the pages of my notebook, and when I tested one in the store it cracked along the fold and ghosted through two sheets with just a Stabilo. The clerk admitted they get returns on it all the time because people grab it thinking thick equals quality. I put it back and stuck with my usual 100 GSM loose sheets from the same shelf. If you're planning to stitch or punch your own inserts, check the weight before you commit. Has anyone found a loose sheet brand that holds up to fountain pen without being too stiff to fold?
