Dropped $85 on a truffle shaver at a fancy kitchen store and it's useless for mushrooms
Bought one of those adjustable truffle shavers at a store in Portland because the guy behind the counter swore it would work on button mushrooms too. First time I tried it on a portobello, the blade just smeared the cap into mush and the slice thickness dial wouldn't hold. Turns out those things are built for soft truffles, not firm fungi, and my $12 mandoline does a better job. Anyone got a slicer that actually holds up on denser mushrooms?
