My bandsaw blade snapped mid cut on a 40 lb rib primal and I'm stuck between two fixes
Last Thursday I was breaking down a rib primal for a restaurant order when the blade on my old Hobart snapped about 6 inches in, right as it hit a chunk of bone. Lost the cut, lost 20 minutes, and had to finish the whole thing by hand with a breaker. Now I'm torn between two schools: half the old timers around here say run the blade tension looser and let it flex, the other half swear tight is the only way to keep it from walking and snapping. I've been running mine tighter for years and this is the second snap in 8 months, so I'm starting to doubt myself. What tension are you running on a 3/4 inch blade, and do you check it with a gauge or just by feel?
