Master carpenter told me polyurethane was a waste on cabinet doors - he was dead wrong

Two years ago a retired guy named Frank watched me finish a set of maple doors and said I was wasting my time with polyurethane because it'd yellow and peel within a year. Fast forward to last month and those same doors are starting to yellow exactly like he predicted, and I've got a customer asking me to redo them for free. Has anyone else had an old pro's advice come back to bite them like that?

Well Frank was right about the yellowing but that's a solvent polyurethane problem, not all polyurethane.

Ha! I totally disagree oil based poly can look great for years if you prep and apply it right.
