That time I cut a whole set of drawer fronts 1/8 inch too narrow

It was a kitchen job in Tacoma about five years ago. I was rushing to finish before a holiday weekend and just didn't double check my math on the plywood. I cut all eight drawer fronts from a beautiful sheet of walnut ply before I saw my mistake. I ended up having to glue on a thin strip to the back edge of each one, which added a full day of work. It was a dumb, avoidable error that cost me time and some pride. Anyone else have a simple measuring slip-up that snowballed?

I used to think measuring twice was just for beginners. Then I built a set of bookshelves where every shelf was a quarter inch too short because I measured from the wrong side of my pencil line. Had to remake all twelve shelves from fresh oak. That job taught me to always mark with a knife and measure from the same edge every single time.

Notice how these small mistakes always happen when we're rushing. It's like our brains skip the basic steps when we feel time pressure. That's why I force myself to slow down now, even when the deadline is loud.
