Tripped a main breaker in an apartment basement, almost got cooked

I was pulling a new coax line through a shared utility room in a 1970s building off of North Avenue in Baltimore. My drill bit caught a stray screw and punched through the panel feed, arcing and tripping the whole building's main breaker at like 2 PM. The landlord came down yelling, tenants were stuck without AC in July, and I had to wait 45 minutes for the utility to come re-energize. Has anyone else hit a live panel while fishing lines, and did you end up eating the overtime or billing the property manager?
