Tried cleaning a Contax T2's shutter with a drop of lighter fluid like we did in the 90s, and it completely seized the mechanism.
The old trick my mentor taught me back in '97 just doesn't fly with the newer lubricants in these cameras, so now I'm looking for a safe solvent that works on modern assemblies, any suggestions?

Yeah, that's a classic move. I once tried to fix a sticky advance lever with a drop of sewing machine oil and basically made a tiny tar pit. Modern lubes really don't play nice with the old school fixes. I've had good luck with pure isopropyl alcohol for cleaning, but test it on a tiny spot first.

Ngl, that tar pit thing is too real. @smith.simon, lighter fluid works but I still prefer isopropyl for most gunk.

Ever try lighter fluid instead?
