My uncle swore by a $12 tarp over any fancy tent footprint, and after 3 soggy trips I owe him an apology
Two summers back my uncle handed me a cheap blue tarp from a hardware store in Tulsa and said to cut it a foot wider than my tent floor, and I rolled my eyes and kept buying $45 footprints. Last month at Devil's Fork it dumped rain for 6 hours and my buddy's footprint collected water under his tent while my tarp shed it clean off the edges. The key is folding the extra under so nothing sticks out to catch rain, which I had to learn the hard way. Now I keep two cut tarps in my bin and I feel silly about all that money. Has anyone else gone full cheap tarp and ditched the branded footprints?
