Hot take: that 20 minute wait for the shuttle at the auto auction lot taught me more than 3 quotes did
I used to book car shipping by just picking the cheapest quote from whoever answered the phone first, which is how I ended up waiting 11 days for a driver to show up on a Tuesday in Barstow. Then a dispatcher at a small lot outside Dallas walked me through why the broker side and the carrier side are two totally different jobs, and it clicked. The cheap guys farm your load out to whoever bids lowest, so your car sits until someone needs a backhaul. The ones with their own trucks in a 200 mile radius gave me a window of 2 days and hit it both times I used them. Now I ask one question before anything else: do you own the truck or are you brokering this out? Curious what everyone else asks first when they call around.
