Bought a $180 pocket hole jig kit when a $12 clamp and my drill did the same thing
I picked up one of those fancy pocket hole jigs at the Woodcraft in Kansas City about 6 months ago because everyone on YouTube made it look like a must-have. Used it on one face frame project, then realized my old setup with a simple clamp and a homemade drill block got me the same joints in about the same time. The jig's sitting in a drawer now and I'm out almost 200 bucks I could've put toward a decent block plane. If you're thinking about buying one, borrow a buddy's first and run it through a full cabinet build before you spend the money. What's the last tool you bought that just didn't earn its keep in your shop?
