From chalk line to laser, my layout game changed last spring

For about 8 years I snapped every line with a chalk box and thought lasers were for guys who couldn't read a tape. Then I picked up a used rotary laser at an auction outside Columbus for $60 and tried it on a deck frame job. Setting up batter boards and pulling diagonals used to eat my whole morning, now I shoot level lines across joists in maybe 20 minutes. The real shift happened when I had to frame a tricky shed roof with a 6/12 pitch and uneven walls, the laser let me mark bearing points without climbing up and down fifty times. I still keep the chalk box for rough stuff and marking studs on concrete, but I grab the laser first for anything over 10 feet now. Has anyone else made the switch and found a cheap laser that actually survives a job site fall?
