Vent: I stretched carpet over tack strip for years before a guy in Tulsa pointed at my knee
For about three years I kicked every room with my right knee locked straight out, thinking that was just how it worked. Then last spring on a job in Tulsa, a guy who has been laying carpet for 20 years watched me kick one seam and told me to stop killing my knee because I was losing power on every hit. I switched to a bent knee with the kicker low and the carpet actually slid on the tack so much smoother, maybe 15 percent less effort per room. Here's my debate though: some guys swear the straight-leg kick gives them more punch on tight berber, and they say bending takes away the snap you need. I think the bent knee wins hands down but I want to hear from people doing high-end tight pile. Am I wrong that angle matters more than force, or is this just about saving your body? Who here kicks with a bent knee and does it slow you down on stairs?
