Bought a $120 creosote removal spray that did nothing

What a waste of money that was... I saw this spray in the supply catalog that claimed to break down creosote without scrubbing. Seemed like a dream for those really tough jobs in Portland where the build up is just insane. Spent half a can on a chimney that had maybe a quarter inch of glaze and it didn't budge even a little. Ended up having to go back with my rotary brush and spend two extra hours anyway. Has anyone else tried one of those chemical treatments that actually worked?

Honestly, I used that same spray and got the exact same result. Total scam. What finally worked for me was the ACS creosote remover powder from the hardware store. I sprinkled it on a hot fire once a week for a month and it gradually broke down the glaze. It didn't vanish overnight but after those four burns I could actually scrape the stuff off with a brush without fighting it. The spray is just a gimmick, save your money. Tbh the powder is the only thing that's ever done anything for me in that situation.

Did you try the powder stuff instead? I had way better luck with that granular creosote remover you sprinkle on hot embers, it actually burned off the glaze after a few uses.
