Hand brushed flues vs rotary whip - which actually gets cleaner results?

I've been doing it the old way with hand brushes for 8 years but just borrowed a rotary whip setup from a guy in Denver. First job with it left more dust in the firebox than I'd like. What method do you guys trust more for a final clean?

You ever notice how rotary whips seem to throw dust all over the place if you don't run them at the perfect speed? I had that same issue with a borrowed setup once and ended up going back to hand brushing for the final pass.

I slowed the RPMs down quite a bit and that helped more than anything. Running them too fast just kicks everything up into the air instead of pulling it off the surface. I also started giving the whip a second to spool up before I touch it to the wall, lets the dust settle into the collection bag better. Took me a few jobs to dial it in but now I hardly ever get that cloud problem anymore.
