My mentor Sal in Rochester told me to stop brushing creosote and start scraping it, and it cut my flue time in half
I've been brushing flues for 11 years and always figured more brushing meant a cleaner stack. Last month Sal, who's been sweeping since 1988, watched me go at a firebox for 40 minutes and said 'you're just polishing the glaze, kid.' He handed me a flat scraper and 15 minutes later the creosote was coming off in sheets. Now I want to know, are you guys scraping first on every job or just when you see that shiny glaze?
