The old rotary brush from 1998 finally gave out on me in Toledo

Tbh I was still using this rotary head I inherited from my uncle's setup back in '98. Last Tuesday I was doing a routine sweep on a 3 story Victorian in Toledo and the bristles just started shedding like crazy mid-run. I had to stop and switch to my backup hand brush, which took an extra 45 minutes. You guys ever hold onto gear way past its prime just because it's familiar, or am I the only one who gets weirdly attached to old tools like that?

Oh man, that's rough. I get it though, I've got a scraper that's held together with painter's tape and pure stubbornness at this point. Every time I reach for it I tell myself "this is the last job, I'm retiring it after this," and then we go through this whole emotional goodbye ceremony mid-coffee break. It's like the tools become part of the routine, you know? They've seen all the same dusty attics and weird crawlspaces you have. I mean, my scraper's probably got more stories than I do at this point. But 45 extra minutes because you trusted some old bristles, that's rough buddy. I'll pour one out for the rotary, but honestly, I'd probably do the exact same thing next time.
