Update: I quit chasing upsells and my Tuesday route made $340 in tips alone
I stopped quoting every homeowner a full reline they didn't need and just swept the flue, told them what I saw, and left. On Tuesday I did 7 houses in Council Bluffs and 4 people tipped me $40 or more because I didn't try to sell them anything. Took 6 hours and I was home by 3. Do you guys push add-ons or just clean and go?
Man, this hits home. I used to work for a company that made us push water heaters and duct cleaning on every single call, and the look on people's faces when they realized you were just there to sell them something was the worst part of the job. You could feel the trust drain right out of the room. Doing honest work and letting the tip speak for itself is such a better way to go through your day. Seven houses and home by 3 with 340 bucks in tips says way more than any sales script ever could.
